It took me a while to figure out whether I should blog or not. I hate it when your friend starts a blog and then just stops posting. I didn't want to be a bad blogger, and I wasn't sure that I had anything to blog about. However, my email updates have been similar enough to a blog, that I thought I would give it a shot. If, however, I leave this blog stagnant for 3 months, feel free to email or comment or to stop checking.
So most of you know that I am working at a children's residential camp, called Camp IAWAH. We run all year long and I have been hired on full-time permanent. But most of you have not been here and are not sure what this place looks like. So I thought I would fill in the blanks with some photos. I live on-site, so I walk to work and live with a family here. I love it and enjoy the chaos of family dinners.
Our house is set off a little from the main buildings that guests use, which is nice as then I feel like I am not at work when I am on a day off. Currently we have a broomball rink in our front yard, which I went skating on this afternoon.
Camp is 205 acres although we spend most of our time in and around the dining hall or office no matter what season. In December we painted the dining hall a cheery colour I like to call summer squash and put up decorations. I love the colour, it makes me smile, everytime I walk in. Over the last few weeks, we have put down new flooring, put in a new stove and renovated the main floor bathroom. We are becoming quite posh!!
This was the Christmas tree!
So this is my new little home. I love my job and love living close to a small town, but near enough a city that I can get what I need and have some entertainment options, when the weather is good enough to travel.
I hope your New Year has started off well and I will keep you up to date with the fun that living and working at camp brings (yesterday I played bus driver and got to pick up two staff members who couldn't start their cars)!
